Let's get this blog going

So, my mother is a genius and gave me a great idea for this blog. From now on I will be talking about items on my "101 Places Every College Student Should See in the U.S. Before They Graduate" list. Some of these will be from personal experience, and some will be places that I've researched and would really like to visit based off of other lists I've seen. I'll talk about the place and the #1 activity you MUST do there, along with a few other things that everyone should experience as well. Let's start now.

1) Eat a Cafe du Mond Beignet in Jackson Square (New Orleans, LA)

Two of the things I love most in this world are dessert and old, picturesque city scenes, and Jackson Square has them both. Located in the heart of the French Quarter, Jackson Square is most famous for the St. Louis Cathedral which serves as its centerpiece. Nestled between the colorful and wrought iron adorned buildings that are so characteristic to this area, the cathedral makes for a beautiful photo-op, yet placed anywhere else it would probably seem a bit plain.

Regardless, the square was the perfect spot for my mom and I to enjoy the best dessert that New Orleans has to offer; beignets from the famous Cafe du Mond. Now if you've ever heard of Cafe du Mond, you've probably heard that while the restaurant is famous for its delicious pastries, it's also known for its infamously long lines. My mom and I both agree, however, that the half hour or so we spent in  anticipation was 100% worth it once we finally got those little pieces of dough heaven into our mouths. Hands down one of the best desserts, I've ever had. They're so good, we went twice within the two and a half days we were there.

College kids love food. College kids love a fun, party atmosphere. AND we love things that are cheap. These are three solid reasons to visit New Orleans. My mom and I had a free plane ticket that was going to expire so we looked up numerous different cities that we could visit for a weekend, and after looking at all the commas associated with NYC hotel prices, my mom immediately jumped at my idea to visit her birth home of New Orleans instead. It's a trip that has it all; a beautiful and historical city, good food, and fun and interesting people. This is somewhere everyone, especially college kids should visit if they get the chance.
